Starbucks has officially joined the list of major corporations requiring employees to work in-person at their headquarters. According to a memo obtained by the Seattle Times, the Seattle-based coffee giant will begin enforcing its three-day-per-week in-office policy starting January 1, 2025.
This decision marks a shift from their previous hybrid work policy implemented by former CEO Howard Schultz in January 2023. This change comes after a period of remote work during the pandemic.
Under this new mandate, corporate employees based at Starbucks’ Sodo headquarters are expected to be physically present on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week, with individual teams deciding on an additional day. Failure to comply could result in termination.
Team leaders will be responsible for ensuring employee attendance and adherence to this policy, as reported by the Times. As of 2023, Starbucks had approximately 3,750 employees working out of its headquarters location.
The announcement was made public through Connect CRE’s post titled “Starbucks Will Enforce Return-to-Office Mandate in 2025.”
