National Housing Director Urgently Needed, MBA's Broeksmit Reiterates

In a recent speech at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) 2024 Annual Convention and Expo, MBA president and CEO Bob Broeksmit reiterated his support for the creation of a National Housing Director. This position would be solely dedicated to overseeing housing policies from all agencies and identifying any conflicting rules.

Broeksmit had previously expressed his support for this concept at a meeting in May 2024 hosted by the Exchequer Club. With the general election approaching, he believes that regardless of which party wins, there will likely be divided government with control over at least one chamber of Congress.

Despite potential political differences, Broeksmit sees opportunities for MBA in 2025 under both Democratic candidate Kamala Harris or Republican incumbent Donald Trump. Both candidates have acknowledged the need to address rising housing prices and increase affordable options for homeownership and renting.

The reaffirmation of MBA’s call for a National Housing Director highlights their commitment to advocating for effective housing policies that benefit both consumers and industry professionals alike.
