Related Midwest Reopens Springfield Housing Complex

Recently, Related Midwest held a grand reopening event for Poplar Place, a 100-unit affordable family apartment community located in Springfield, Illinois. The redevelopment of this property was made possible through a partnership between Related Midwest and the city of Springfield, the Springfield Housing Authority and the Illinois Housing Development Authority. With an investment of $46.5 million, Related Midwest’s in-house construction company LR Contracting led the 15-month project which included reducing density on site and renovating all 75 buildings. The newly redeveloped community now consists of 50 single-family homes and 25 duplexes that are fully occupied.

In addition to updating the residences themselves, Related Midwest also added new amenities such as green space for social gatherings and recreational activities spanning over two-and-a-half acres. A brand new community center has been built with features including a kitchen area, management office space,and outdoor playgrounds with walking paths surrounding it.
