NRG Energy is planning to invest a minimum of $31.4 million in renovating its headquarters located at 1301 McKinney St., known as Fulbright Tower, in downtown Houston.
The company has leased 245,000 square feet on the top ten floors of Fulbright Tower and is expected to move into the newly revamped space by January 2026.
According to reports from the Houston Business Journal, construction for the renovation will begin towards late 2024 and is estimated to be completed by late September 2025. NRG has enlisted Kirksey Architecture, based in Houston, as their design firm for this project.
In May of this year (2021), NRG announced that it would be consolidating its dual headquarters located in both Princeton New Jersey and Houston into one sole location – making it official that their new home base will be situated here in Texas’ largest city.
At present time however; there are ongoing renovations taking place within Fulbright Tower’s complex – which includes all buildings under “Houston Center”. This massive undertaking spans over an area covering approximately nine acres with a total floor space measuring around four point two million square feet. The five buildings included within this complex are: LyondellBasell Tower; The Highlight at Houston Center; along with numbers two through four simply named after their respective addresses.
