Wellstone Health System has enlisted the help of The Integral Group to lead the redevelopment project for the former Atlanta Medical Center. Construction is set to commence in the coming weeks.
The 22-acre property will be transformed into a diverse community, featuring affordable housing, residential properties, public green spaces, retail options at a neighborhood level, new street access points and commercial establishments. Additionally, resources for health and well-being will also be incorporated into this vision.
Integral plans to work closely with local residents and stakeholders over the next few weeks in order to create an implementation plan that takes their feedback into account. The revitalization process will occur in phases over several years with ongoing input from community members at each stage. In response to requests from neighbors for swift progress on this project, Integral intends on applying for permits soon with hopes of beginning demolition of outdated structures by early 2025.
In November 2022 Wellstar made headlines when it announced its decision to close Atlanta Medical Center due declining revenue and rising costs associated with staff salaries and supplies.
