Hoar Construction has completed the topping out of Icon, a 30-story luxury apartment tower located in the West Campus neighborhood near The University of Texas at Austin. This marks a significant milestone as it signifies that construction has reached its highest point. Hoar is serving as the general contractor for this project, working alongside developer MDL Development. Groundbreaking took place in March 2023 and completion is expected by summer of 2025, just in time for students to move in for the start of the 2025-2026 school year.
Icon will offer a total of 555 student beds across its 216 units, with each unit ranging from one to five bedrooms.
The property will feature top-of-the-line amenities such as a rooftop pool, fitness center, game and lounge rooms, media room and student work areas. Additionally, there will be four levels of underground parking available.
This development comes at an opportune time as UT faces a shortage of undergraduate housing options. For the upcoming school year (2022-2023), over17 ,000 undergraduates applied for on-campus housing but only about half were accepted due to limited availability.
