El Matador Foods, based in Baytown, is dedicated to ensuring that Mexican food lovers always have an ample supply of tortillas. To achieve this goal, the company is investing $7.6 million in a new building near its current location.
This project marks the first phase of a two-phase investment plan and will create approximately 100 new jobs at El Matador’s plant. According to reports from the Houston Business Journal, construction on the 60,387-square-foot facility located at 7414 Bayway Drive will begin in November and is expected to be completed by August 2025. The new building will be situated just down the street from their existing site at 7201 Bayway Drive which currently spans over16,000 square feet.
The state-of-the-art one-story steel and concrete structure will feature a loading dock for efficient distribution operations. El Matador Foods specializes in producing various types of tortillas such as traditional flour tortillas as well as flavored wraps and Indian flatbread for retailers and restaurants across Texas, Louisiana,Mississippi,and New Mexico,in additionto international markets.Sysco Corp.,a major playerinthe food distribution industry,is among their listof customers.
