"Reopening of Houston's Historic Theater"

The highly anticipated reopening of the historic River Oaks Theatre is just around the corner. After being closed since March 2021, the 85-year-old theater will finally welcome back moviegoers next month. The theater was acquired by Culinary Khancepts in 2022 and has undergone extensive renovations to its 17,000-square-foot space at a cost of $5 million.

Gensler’s Houston office spearheaded the design for this project, while Star Commercial Construction Group oversaw all renovation work.

Movie lovers can look forward to a revamped experience at River Oaks Theatre with three new auditoriums equipped with state-of-the-art lighting, projection and sound systems. In addition, there will be a private screening room and luxurious seating for ultimate comfort.

Adjacent to the theater is Leo’s River Oaks restaurant which is also part of Culinary Khancepts’ plans. This elegant dining establishment aims to offer a unique twist on fine dining in its spacious 5,100-square-foot setting that includes traditional seating options as well as private rooms and an outdoor patio area. The menu will feature delectable dishes such as steaks, seafood and an impressive selection of wines.
