WinnCompanies has recently started work on the Residences on Lincoln Square, a $51-million project aimed at converting the historic Worcester Boys Club building and surrounding property into 80 affordable apartment homes for adults aged 55 and above.
Led by WinnDevelopment, this initiative will utilize adaptive reuse techniques to preserve and renovate the 94-year-old building into 16 apartment units as well as various community spaces. In addition, a new five-story apartment building will be constructed adjacent to it with an additional 64 apartments. The two buildings will be connected through a single-story glass walkway on the ground floor. The project is expected to be completed in spring of 2026.
According to WinnCompanies CEO Gilbert Winn, their company has been involved in development projects in Worcester for over half a century since its inception when they built Coes Pond Village. With their acquisition of this property in 2019, they are excited about moving forward with this redevelopment that not only preserves an important piece of history but also provides much-needed affordable housing for seniors.
