In 1969, the Phoenix area made history by offering surfable waves despite being far from an ocean. This was all thanks to Big Surf, which opened its doors that year. Although this famed attraction is no longer around, new developments are following in its footsteps. One such development is Cannon Beach.
After three years of construction and a budget of $310 million, Cannon Beach is finally ready to welcome visitors with its water-filled pools and wave-testing activities. According to the Phoenix Business Journal, there will be soft opening events throughout September featuring professional surfers for tenants who have secured space at Cannon Beach.
Situated on 37 acres at the intersection of Power and Warner roads in Mesa, Cannon Beach boasts over half a million square feet of retail space along with restaurants and various attractions like a surf lagoon and cliff-diving pool measuring 17 feet deep. The development also includes two hotels: an Aloft Hotel by Marriott as well as a four-star hotel branded under the name “Cannon Beach” inspired by beach towns in Southern California and Hawaii.
Several businesses have already signed on as tenants for this exciting new destination including LIVE Hydration Spa, Moku Hawaiian Grill , Hi5 Nails & Spa ,and The Fresh Monkee . These establishments are expected to open their doors within the next few weeks.
The park itself is being built by Bleuwave while Adaptive Architects takes care of designing it.
