NAIOP SoCal has achieved a significant milestone with the unanimous passing of Assembly Bill 2904 by the California State Senate. This marks the first time in our association’s history that we have sponsored and successfully guided a bill through the state legislative process. The aim of AB 2904, authored by Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-67), is to increase transparency in the zoning change process.
Under this new legislation, municipalities will now be required to provide property owners with double the amount of notice before implementing any changes to zoning laws. Our Senior Consultant for Government and Political Affairs, José Cornejo, played an instrumental role in navigating this bill through all stages of its development.
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement,” said Timothy Jemal, CEO of NAIOP SoCal. “It demonstrates our commitment to building bipartisan relationships and advocating for policies that support commercial real estate while contributing to California’s economic growth.” This accomplishment is a testament to our efforts as an organization.
