Closure of Two Boston-Area Hospitals by Steward on Labor Day

Closure of Two Boston-Area Hospitals by Steward on Labor Day

Steward Health Care announced on Friday that it will be shutting down two hospitals in Massachusetts due to a lack of qualified bids after declaring bankruptcy earlier this year, as reported by ABC News. The affected facilities are Carney Hospital located in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and Nashoba Valley Medical Center situated about 45 miles west of Boston.

Despite conducting an extensive sale process with the involvement of lenders and regulators, Steward was unable to secure any suitable offers for these two hospitals. As a result, they will cease operations on or around August 31st. Steward also mentioned that it has been actively trying to sell or transition all its Massachusetts Hospitals and is currently engaged in final negotiations for six other facilities.

The Dallas-based company stated that it is cooperating with state and federal agencies during the closure process. In addition, they assured patients at Carney Hospital and Nashoba Valley Medical Center that they would assist them in finding alternative care options while supporting their employees through this challenging transition period.”
