UCSD Proposes $2 Billion Campus Housing Village

UCSD Proposes $2 Billion Campus Housing Village

The University of California San Diego’s Chancellor, Pradeep Khosla, is seeking preliminary approval from the Board of Regents to develop a $2 billion housing village on the eastern side of their main campus. This proposal aims to accommodate up to 6,000 students and is one of the largest and most expensive housing plans presented in over two decades.

According to reports from The San Diego Union-Tribune, this proposed village will mainly consist of high-rise buildings and will be more than three times larger than any other market-rate residential complex in San Diego County. In light of increasing enrollment numbers (13,000 over the past decade with an expected increase by 7,600 in the next 10-15 years), Khosla acknowledges that there simply isn’t enough affordable housing available near UCSD’s La Jolla and University City area.

This proposal addresses this pressing issue head-on as it strives towards meeting demand for student accommodation at UCSD.
