Boston Launches New Planning Department to Replace BPDA

Boston Launches New Planning Department to Replace BPDA

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has taken a significant step towards improving the city’s planning and development processes by launching a new dedicated planning department. This move, announced on Monday, aims to expedite the dissolution of the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA), which has been in operation for 70 years. The newly formed department will be responsible for all aspects of planning, zoning, development review, urban design and real estate in Boston.

In line with her campaign promises to abolish the BPDA and plan collaboratively for Boston’s future, Wu is determined to bring about positive changes through this transition. While efforts are underway to streamline the development review process under BPDA board leadership during this period of changeover, specific job cuts have not yet been disclosed. Despite concerns surrounding job security and pay structures within the agency staff members will continue their roles as they transition into positions within this new department.

This latest announcement marks an important milestone in shaping a more efficient approach towards managing growth and progress within one of America’s most historic cities – without compromising on quality or expertise.
