"Top 8 U.S. Markets for Life Sciences Talent: San Diego Ranks High"

San Diego has been recognized as one of the top eight markets in CBRE’s annual U.S. Life Sciences Talent Trends report. The city’s life sciences biopharma R&D subsector ranks seventh nationally with 17,240 employees, and it is also ranked fourth among the Top 25 markets for core life sciences R&D occupations and third for density of these occupations.

According to Ted Jacobs, vice chairman at CBRE, San Diego’s significance in the life sciences industry is evident through its ability to host a comparable number of core researchers as larger markets do. This highlights how San Diego has become a major player in this sector and its universities are offering more specialized degrees than general science ones.

The long-term success of San Diego’s life sciences industry is supported by leading educational institutions such as University of California – San Diego (UCSD). UCSD contributes to making San Diego one of the top five markets for graduating new talent with expertise in cell-cellular biology, anatomical sciences, and biological-biosystems engineering.
