The Air Liquide Group, based in France, is constructing four large and modular air-separation units at Exxon Mobil’s Baytown facility. This investment of $850 million marks the company’s largest industrial venture to date, focusing on clean hydrogen and ammonia production.
Air Liquide will utilize its infrastructure to supply oxygen and nitrogen for Exxon’s project as well as other gases for their clients. Additionally, Exxon will have access to Air Liquide’s established pipeline network for transportation of the hydrogen produced from this project.
Exxon anticipates that their upcoming hydrogen production plant will generate 1 billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen daily along with over 1 million tons of ammonia annually. Furthermore, this initiative is projected to capture and store approximately 7 million tons of carbon dioxide per year through technology developed by Honeywell based in North Carolina.
With more than 20,000 employees across the United States alone, Air Liquide continues its expansion into new markets with this significant development in Baytown.
