"Copper Supplier Launches $500M Expansion Project at Illinois Facility"

Wieland, a leading supplier of copper and copper alloy solutions, has commenced a $500 million modernization and expansion project at its East Alton, Illinois facility. The construction phase is now underway as the first step in this significant capital investment plan to upgrade and expand the facility that was originally established in 1916. Wieland has partnered with Graycor Construction Company and Helmkamp Construction Co., renowned experts in their field, for the multi-phase project.

This comprehensive initiative will replace an over 100-year-old hot rolling plant at East Alton with a state-of-the-art facility featuring advanced hot mill lines, milling lines, cold rolling mill equipment, high-bay storage equipped with automated material handling systems and overhead cranes.

“Given copper’s crucial role in the energy transition process,” stated Greg Keown – President of Wieland Rolled Products North America – “this undertaking will significantly enhance our ability to provide sustainable solutions that meet our customers’ evolving needs.”

The design-build team comprising Graycor I Helmkamp have joined forces with Vestal Corporation for civil engineering services along with structural design expertise while Salas O’Brien provides process engineering design services.
