Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed a city land sale to facilitate the planned $20 million expansion of Hartgrove Behavioral Health System Hospital in Austin. The .92-acre lot at 5736 W. Roosevelt Road, which has been vacant for over two decades, will be sold at its appraised value of $440,000 to UHS of Hartgrove.
UHS is an affiliate of Universal Health Services, Inc., a nationwide company with 94,000 professionals and 400 facilities. The new addition to Hartgrove’s existing building on the purchased land will span 28,000 square feet and include space for 24 double-occupancy patient rooms.
The expansion aims to improve hospital operations and increase capacity for patients while maintaining current programs. With services such as inpatient acute mental health care and outpatient care available along with wellness education and support options offered by the hospital’s accessory services department – this project is expected to benefit both patients’ well-being as well as overall community health.
