The Phoenix City Council has given the green light to a zoning proposal for Gila Foothills, a 300-acre master-planned development located southwest of Phoenix. This new development will be situated on agricultural land along Loop 202, just north of South Mountain. The approved plan includes a variety of amenities such as a 50-acre resort, housing options in Laveen Village and even space for a hospital.
According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the proposed project will feature approximately 1,200 residential units with potential for more if certain conditions are met. These conditions include bringing in additional services like restaurants and retail spaces as well as senior housing and townhomes. If these requirements are fulfilled by the developer team consisting of Enterprise Capital, Gila and Salt River Development LLC., Butler Housing Co., Davis Kimley-Horn and Berry Riddell LLC., an extra 1,000 units can be built on-site.
This expansive plan is expected to revitalize this area while providing much-needed amenities for residents. It is set apart from previous plans which only allowed up to around 3,200 residential units without any additional features or services included.
Overall, the approval from city council marks an exciting step forward towards creating vibrant communities within Phoenix’s growing landscape.
