A popular hotel in the Galleria area, Hotel Derek, is set to close its doors soon. The 312-room hotel, located at 2525 W. Loop S., also boasts 10,000 square feet of event space.
According to a company representative on their Facebook page, they are eagerly anticipating the upcoming transformation and passing the baton to a new brand. On June 24th of this year (2024), after more than two decades serving Houston’s hospitality needs, Hotel Derek will officially close its doors.
The Houston Business Journal has reported that Hotel Derek first opened in 2002 as a replacement for the Red Lion Hotel. The building itself dates back to 1979 and spans over an impressive total of approximately173 thousand square feet at its location on West Loop South. In December of2012,a major renovation project was announced by Lowe Enterprises Investors (now known as Broadshore Capital Partners) who had acquired ownership just six months prior through a national hotel investment venture – though no specific price was disclosed publicly.The Revolve Kitchen + Bar made its debut withinthehotel’s premisesin2014,making itthe fifth restaurantto occupythis particular space withina spanof12 years.
In addition,the property features an expansive parking garage spanning over91 thousand square feet whichwas originally constructed alongside themain buildingbackin1979.Further updates regarding future plans for this prime location have yetto be revealed by official sourcesat this time.
