“November Ballot Plan for New Bay Area City”

"November Ballot Plan for New Bay Area City"

A proposed new city in Solano County, adjacent to Travis Air Force Base, is facing opposition from lawmakers and environmental groups. The developers are seeking 13,000 signatures to put their plan on the November ballot. According to reports from the Los Angeles Times and North Bay Business Journal, voter approval is necessary for rezoning in order for the large-scale project to move forward.

The initiative, known as East Solano Homes Jobs and Clean Energy Initiative by California Forever group – primarily composed of Silicon Valley investors – aims at creating a minimum of 15,000 jobs while providing $400 million towards down payments on homes for Solano County residents. Additionally, the proposal includes plans for a “Travis Security Zone” around the air base where no new residential or commercial development would be allowed, and designating over 700 acres as Rio Vista Parkland.

Opposition has been voiced by Sierra Club’s Solano chapter along with concerns raised by state representatives John Garamendi and Mike Thompson regarding potential impacts on Travis Air Force Base and county residents.
