"San Diego Port Master Plan Achieves Approvals Milestone"

The Port of San Diego has reached a significant milestone in its planning for the future, known as the Port Master Plan Update (PMPU). The Board of Port Commissioners unanimously certified the Final Program Environmental Impact Report and approved the PMPU. This marks an important step towards achieving our collective vision for San Diego Bay and its surrounding waterfront.

Chairman Frank Urtasun expressed excitement about entering this final phase after 11 years of community engagement. Through numerous public meetings and exchanges with stakeholders, we have developed a plan that reflects our commitment to delivering on promises made to voters when the Port was established in 1962.

The PMPU is a comprehensive water- and land-use plan that designates specific areas for various uses such as maritime activities, fishing, visitor-serving commercial ventures, recreation, environmental conservation and protection. It also determines where port activities should take place while identifying locations for recreational amenities like hotels, restaurants and retail establishments.

Our next step is to process the PMPU document with California Coastal Commission aiming for certification later this year. We look forward to continuing our efforts towards creating a thriving waterfront that benefits all members of our community.
