High demand for artillery shells has prompted General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Inc. (GD) to select a 240,011-square-foot building in the Mesquite 635 industrial park on LBJ Freeway as the home of a new artillery casings plant. The industrial park offers 555,000 square feet of space should GD need to expand operations in the future.
As reported by Dallas News, GD will process raw materials into artillery casings that will be shipped elsewhere for assembly into munitions; no explosives or munitions assembly is planned at this facility. It is expected that 20,000 units per month can be produced here once operational.
The city of Mesquite anticipates employment opportunities with 50 salaried staff members and 75 – 100 hourly employees being hired when production begins at this plant dedicated to producing artillery shells for high demand markets worldwide
