Skanska Renovates MetLife Stadium for 2026 World Cup Final

Skanska, a leading construction company, has officially begun the renovation process for MetLife Stadium. The goal of this project is to expand the playing field to meet FIFA size standards in preparation for hosting eight tournament games, including the highly anticipated Final of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

The scope of work includes demolishing sections of existing precast seating and installing a new modular steel composite seating system. Additionally, 1,740 seats will be removed to accommodate the expanded field while maintaining current NFL seating quantities and layouts.

To minimize any disruptions during construction, Skanska has planned two phases for this renovation. Phase I is set to begin in January 2022 with an estimated completion date of May 2024. Phase II will follow in January 2025 and is expected to be finished by May 2025.

This project holds special significance for Skanska as they previously built MetLife Stadium back in 2010. This iconic venue serves as home base for both New York Giants and New York Jets football teams while also hosting various concerts and events such as Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.
