SkyBox and Prologis have recently constructed large data centers in the outskirts of Austin, with another major project on the horizon. The Caldwell County Commissioners are currently considering incentives for a $1.3 billion data center to be built in their small county, which has a population of 40,000 residents. Prime Data Centers is listed as the developer on the application.
According to reports from Austin Business Journal, commissioners will review three tax abatement agreements and establish a tax increment reinvestment zone for the site. While data centers may not create many long-term jobs, they do contribute significantly to a city’s tax revenue due to their substantial investments.
The proposed location for this project is an expansive 206-acre parcel along Farm-to-Market Road 2720 and Bobwhite Road.
This development also appears connected to “Project Snow,” an unnamed economic development initiative that was approved by commissioners after being discussed during an executive session on January 23rd.
