Buc-ee’s Megastore to Open in San Marcos: Plans and Details Revealed

Buc-ee's Megastore to Open in San Marcos: Plans and Details Revealed

Gas station owners rarely seek government incentives when building in a town. However, Buc-ee’s is an exception that demands attention from the town council. The company plans to construct a 74,000-square-foot family travel center in San Marcos – equivalent to some grocery stores.

San Marcos and Hays County are poised to enter into a 15-year agreement with Buc-ee’s, offering them a 50% sales tax rebate if they invest at least $50 million and create 175 full-time jobs. In return, the company will be responsible for paying all property taxes.

Over the next 15 years, it is estimated that the city will retain $5.9 million in property taxes and $3.2 million in sales taxes while the county will retain $1 million in sales taxes and $2.8 million in property taxes from this project alone – not including potential benefits for schools within Hays Consolidated Independent School District.

The announcement of Buc-ee’s Megastore coming to San Marcos has created much buzz among locals as well as industry experts due its potential economic impact on both local businesses and government revenue streams.
