A Japanese life sciences project is set to be established in Sanford, NC, bringing with it an expected investment and over 100 new jobs. The project will be located on a 70-acre industrial park at Helix Innovation Park at the Brickyard. While the company behind this development remains unknown, the Sanford City Council is preparing to vote on incentives totaling more than $3.86 million.
In addition to city inducements, it has been reported by the Charlotte Business Journal that state incentives are also likely once local approvals have been obtained from the council.
Sanford has already attracted attention from other pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer (NYSE: PFE), which currently operates a gene therapy manufacturing facility in town and plans for further expansion. By 2025, this plant is expected to employ approximately 300 people and contribute towards Pfizer’s overall workforce of over 4,500 employees in North Carolina.
