"Trucking Group Announces Plans for $1.9B Battery Plant in Memphis Area"

Cummins, Daimler Truck and Paccar have announced a partnership to build a state-of-the-art battery facility in the Memphis area. The project, with an estimated cost of $1.9 billion, will produce batteries for medium and heavy-duty commercial electric trucks as well as industrial applications.

To help offset some of the costs associated with this massive undertaking, the Mississippi legislature has approved an incentive package worth $365 million. This new facility will be located in Byhalia, Mississippi within the 3,600-acre Chickasaw Trails Industrial Park near major highways including U.S Hwy 72 and Miss Hwy 302.

Construction is expected to begin this spring or summer with plans for completion by 2027. The site chosen for this project covers approximately 500 acres at Chickasaw Trails park and will receive power from TVA-regulated Chickasaw Electric Cooperative.

The venture is owned jointly by Cummins (30%), Daimler Truck (30%), Paccar (30%) along with technology partner EVE Energy holding a remaining stake of 10%. This collaboration marks another significant step towards advancing sustainable transportation solutions in Northeast Mississippi.
