Coastal Construction recently completed a 96-unit apartment project in Palm Springs, Florida using an innovative interlocking brick system. This streamlined alternative to traditional building materials is made of Renco, a fully recyclable composite consisting of repurposed glass and plastic, calcite dust, and resin. The blocks are stacked like cinderblocks and easily snapped together like Lego’s by only 11 unskilled laborers.
The use of Renco allowed for the completion of the project in less than two months – 20% faster than conventional methods – at a cost savings of 20%. In addition to its efficiency benefits, this material has high strength and stability similar to fiberglass making it able to withstand extreme environmental forces such as Category 5 storms.
This groundbreaking project marks the first time Renco has been used in construction within the United States. With its ability to create affordable housing quickly without sacrificing quality or durability, it is sure to revolutionize future building projects across various industries.
