UCLA Plans Research Park at Former Westside Pavilion Mall

UCLA has announced its plans to transform the former Westside Pavilion shopping mall into a cutting-edge research hub, following its recent acquisition of the property for $700 million. The 687,000-square-foot space will serve as home to two multidisciplinary research centers: the California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy at UCLA and the UCLA Center for Quantum Science and Engineering.

According to Chancellor Gene Block, this redevelopment project aims to bring together scholars from various higher education institutions, corporate partners, government agencies, and startups in pursuit of groundbreaking discoveries that will benefit society on a global scale. With favorable market conditions driving their decision-making process, UCLA credits Google’s involvement in leasing part of the property as instrumental in facilitating this acquisition.
