Seattle’s rental market has experienced a significant increase in apartment activity, with thousands of new rentals being added to various neighborhoods over the past five years. According to RentCafe’s analysis of more than 900 U.S. zip codes, three Seattle metro areas have made it into the top 50 for having the highest number of newly completed apartments between 2018 and 2022.
The area with the most apartments is Redmond, which has seen a surge of 5,121 new units delivered in just five years. Additionally, both North Downtown Seattle and along its shoreline have also made it onto this list.
Other popular neighborhoods such as Queen Anne and South Lake Union have also contributed significantly to this rise in apartment construction by adding a total of 4,780 new rentals over the same time period.
Kirkland’s zip code stands out as one of Seattle’s top builders due to nearly half of its units being specifically designed for low- and mid-income renters. This trend highlights an effort towards creating more affordable housing options within these growing communities.
