The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) has announced a delay in their decision on new building height regulations for downtown until next year, as reported by the Boston Business Journal. The BPDA has been actively working on a comprehensive planning update for downtown since 2018, but due to the impact of COVID-19, they have put it on hold. One of the most contentious proposals is a proposed limit of 400 feet in one section of the neighborhood.
According to their updated timeline, zoning heights will not be included in the upcoming planning report presented to the BPDA board in November. Instead, they will be finalized separately at a later date. It is estimated that finalizing height rules for mixed-use projects downtown may not occur until mid-2024.
