"Transforming the Vacant Westside Sears Building into an Entertainment Venue"

A new entertainment venue is set to open on the west side of Phoenix, as another regional mall undergoes a transformation. Over half of the town’s malls have been repurposed in recent years, and now Desert Sky Mall will join them with a Latino-focused space. The 120,000-square-foot former Sears building has been purchased by El Club Capri Real Estate for $7.13 million from New York-based Seritage SRC Finance LLC.

El Club Capri Real Estate already owns the popular El Club Capri entertainment venue for Latino events such as concerts, dances, parties, weddings and quinceañeras in Phoenix’s Van Buren area. They also own San Antonio’s Aztec Theatre (pictured), which follows a similar theme. According to reports from the Phoenix Business Journal , this group has long desired to expand their presence onto the west side of Phoenix.

The highly-anticipated new venue is expected to open its doors by late 2024 or early 2025.
