Macy’s, Inc. is ramping up its small-format store strategy, with plans to more than double the number of these stores by 2025. The retail giant will be opening up to 30 new Macy’s small-format locations across the country in addition to the nearly 15 already operating.
Bloomingdale’s smaller store concept, Bloomie’s, will also be expanding with new stores in existing Chicagoland locations. These strategically placed off-mall shopping centers are roughly one-fifth the size of full-line Macy’s stores.
According to Adrian Mitchell, chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Macy’s: “Our efficient and targeted approach with these small-format stores provides customers with an alternative shopping experience within our omnichannel ecosystem.” This expansion presents a unique opportunity for high-traffic shopping centers.
