Walgreens CIO Hsiao Wang Departs from Drugstore Chain

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Walgreens Boots Alliance has announced the departure of its Chief Information Officer Hsiao Wang. The news was revealed in an internal memo and comes amidst a wave of executive changes at the drugstore chain.

Interim CEO Ginger Graham stated that Wang had been on leave and is no longer with the company as of immediate effect. This announcement adds to Walgreens’ search for new leaders following the sudden exits of former CEO Rosalind Brewer and CFO James Kehoe in August.

In light of these changes, longtime board member Ginger Graham has taken on interim CEO responsibilities. To assist her with technology matters, Walgreens has brought on Neal Sample as a consultant. Sample previously served as CIO for Northwestern Mutual and also held roles at Express Scripts before it was acquired by Cigna.

There are reports that Tim Wentworth, former CEO of Express Scripts, is being considered for the role of Walgreens’ next permanent CEO. These developments mark an important time for leadership transitions at one America’s largest drugstore chains.
