"Tempe Developer Transforms Surf Park into Business Park"

In 1969, Big Surf made a splash as one of the first surf parks to offer real waves. Now, a developer is riding the wave of industrial development in Phoenix with their new project known as “The Next Wave”.

Tempe City Council has given approval for Overton Moore Properties (OMP) to construct a three-building spec industrial park spanning 690,000 square feet at 1480 N. McClintock Drive. The site was purchased by OMP for $49.97 million in 2022.

With all necessary approvals secured, construction is set to begin by the end of this year according to reports from Phoenix Business Journal. HPA Architecture will serve as the architect for this project.

While Big Surf may have closed its doors, other water attractions such as Cactus Surf Park in Gilbert and Cannon Beach and VAI Global Development’s $1 billion resort and entertainment complex in Glendale have emerged throughout the Valley since then. Both Cannon Beach and VAI are expected to open sometime in 2024.
