"New Designation Awarded to Lowell Justice Center"

Finegold Alexander Architects, in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, DCAMM, Executive Office of the Trial Court and the city of Lowell, recently celebrated the Designation Ceremony for the Cornelius F. Kiernan Judicial Center in Lowell. This 7-story building spans 265,000 square feet and was designed by Boston-based architects to be universally accessible. It houses a total of 17 courtrooms across five departments: Superior Court, District Court, Housing Court Juvenile Court and Probate & Family Courts. Additionally it features various offices such as a Law Library and Registry of Deeds along with facilities like a Grand Jury Room.

The center is LEED Platinum certified – making it not only Massachusetts’ first courthouse but also America’s first state courthouse to receive this prestigious certification due to its incorporation sustainable elements into its design.
