Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has unveiled the Healthy and Green Retrofit Pilot Program, a new initiative designed to assist owners of small buildings in Boston with reducing their carbon footprint and transitioning to cleaner energy sources. This program will specifically target two to four-unit owner-occupied buildings, prioritizing affordability and preventing displacement of tenants.
Under this program, building owners will receive comprehensive energy assessments, construction management services, and forgivable loan financing. These efforts align with Boston’s Green New Deal goals by providing grants up to $50,000 per unit for eligible projects.
The ultimate goal of this pilot is not only to decarbonize Boston’s smaller building stock but also serve as a model for other communities looking towards sustainable solutions. By committing resources towards reducing carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality through initiatives like this one, Mayor Wu continues her dedication towards creating a greener future for the city.
