Amazon is set to expand its workforce in Southern California by adding 16,000 employees to its warehouse network and hiring an additional 30,000 across the state. This move is part of the company’s seasonal strategy to fill a total of 250,000 jobs nationwide in preparation for the holiday shopping season.
The Inland Empire region has a significant presence from Amazon with over 40 robotic fulfillment centers, sortation facilities and delivery stations. The company also operates an air hub at San Bernardino International Airport as reported by Press-Enterprise.
In addition to this expansion in Southern California, Amazon has opened more than 50 new fulfillment centers and delivery sites throughout the United States this year which has resulted in more job opportunities. The e-commerce giant aims to hire approximately100,000 more workers compared to previous holiday seasons.
To attract top talent for these positions, Amazon has increased their average starting pay for new employees up $20.50 per hour with some areas offering base wages as high as $28 per hour.
