Meridian Design Build has successfully finished construction on a state-of-the-art package sortation and distribution center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Developed by Scannell Properties on a 79-acre plot of land, the 479,000-square-foot facility is now operational.
The new center at 1035 Commerce Park Drive SW will serve as FedEx Ground’s automated package hub and bring over 480 job opportunities to southwest Cedar Rapids. Boasting impressive features such as 190 loading docks,12 drive-in doors, and an office space spanning over31,977 square feet,the building also underwent significant site improvements including the addition of a spacious parking lot with room for660 cars,a van staging area for189 vehicles,and tractor parking for130 trucks.Additionally,a trailer storage yard with330 stalls was added to accommodate the high volume of packages that will be processed through this facility.
Meridian took charge of this project using their expertise in design/build methods while Cornerstone Architects provided architectural design services and Manhard Consulting handled civil engineering duties.The property’s strategic location just nine minutes away from Eastern Iowa Airport adds convenience to its functionality.
