$54M Energy Saving Plan for Texas Stadium to Launch

NRG Park in Houston is moving forward on a sustainability and energy efficiency project estimated to generate over $54 million in savings. Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) is collaborating with Harris County and Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation to upgrade building equipment, controls, HVAC systems, BASs, water conservation systems, life safety systems lighting improvements as well as high-efficiency chiller upgrades and integration of JCI OpenBlue Central Utility Plant at the sports facility.

The project will reduce NRG Park’s annual carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 241 000 metric tons – equivalent to taking 52 000 vehicles off of Harris County roadways – while guaranteeing the promised savings for stakeholders involved. This ambitious initiative represents a major step towards achieving greater energy efficiency across Texas’ stadiums while providing substantial financial benefits for all parties involved.
