"$450 Million Hospital to Serve Austin-SA Corridor's Growing Population"

University Health is preparing to construct a state-of-the-art hospital in Selma, located just northeast of San Antonio. The project, with an estimated cost of $450 million, will cater to the increasing population between these two major cities. Currently, the combined metro areas of San Antonio and Austin are home to over 5 million people and this number is projected to reach 8.3 million by 2050.

The upcoming University Health Retama Hospital will be connected to a new medical office building spanning over 1,000 square feet at Lookout Road and Retama Parkway. This full-service facility will offer advanced medical services as well as specialized treatments for various health conditions. Initially opening with 166 beds in early 2027, the five-story structure has been designed for future expansion up to a capacity of 286 beds.

Among its many features include a round-the-clock emergency department along with labor and delivery units, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), operating rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology; all supported by radiology facilities along with pharmacy and laboratory services.

This significant development is expected not only improve healthcare access but also create around five hundred jobs initially which can potentially increase up six hundred positions in total once fully operational.
