A Mexican-based toilet paper maker is investing over $400 million in a new plant located in New Caney, Texas, approximately 30 miles northeast of Houston. Grupo Corporative Palelera purchased 32 acres at the Montgomery Industrial Park for its planned manufacturing facility. According to the Dallas Business Journal, the company already operates a conversion center near George Bush International Airport that produces finished products from paper materials.
The East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) has agreed to provide incentives for this project contingent on completion within five years and creation of 200 jobs. The design phase is currently underway and early plans call for a 190,000-square-foot warehouse with packing center and conversion facility; construction must begin within 18 months of land purchase which EMCID President & CEO Frank McCrady anticipates will occur soon. Walmart serves as Grupo Corporative Palelera’s main clientele base .
