**Clayton County’s $117M Convocation Center Set to Open This November**

The Clayton County Convocation Center & College and Career Academy, located on the site of a former Sears store in Morrow, Georgia, is slated to begin hosting events in November. The 8,000-seat facility represents a major investment in the community, with Clayton County Public Schools contributing $55 million toward the project. Additional funding was provided by multiple sources, including the Delta Air Lines Foundation. MEJA Construction is serving as the project’s general contractor. An event management company has yet to be selected.

Strategically situated off Interstate 75, the new arena is adjacent to the city-owned Morrow Event Center, which features an exhibition hall capable of accommodating up to 30,000 attendees, along with a 300-seat ballroom. A new Holiday Inn Express has also recently opened in the vicinity, adding to the area’s convenience for visitors and event-goers.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the school district is currently collaborating with Clayton State University to potentially host a basketball tournament at the new venue. In addition, the district is in talks with the Georgia High School Association in an effort to secure future state wrestling tournaments and ultimately host state championships in basketball and cheerleading.

The Clayton County Convocation Center marks a significant milestone in the area’s ongoing development and represents a key venue for educational, athletic, and community events in metro Atlanta.
